Do you want to work with an environmental joint project where the overall goal is to improve the coastal and marine environment? Arcada is looking for a Project Environmental Lead who dares to test new solutions and has the ambition to develop a sustainable and profitable reed value chain for European funded project Baltic Reed.
What is Baltic Reed?
Baltic Reed is a Central Baltic Interreg-funded project, with a project period of three years. Central Baltic program is a European fund program, with an overall goal to improve the lives in the region by solving common problems and working on joint projects, across borders. The program has 7 specific objectives, and the project Baltic Reed is funded under a specific objective nr. 4, “to improve the coastal and Marine environment”. The lead organization for this project is John Nurminen Säätiö. Arcada University of Applied Sciences is a project partner, together with partners from Sweden, Finland, and Aland Islands.
In the Baltic Reed project, nutrients are removed by moving the Baltic Sea’s coastal wetlands, restoring coastal habitats, and developing a sustainable and profitable reed value chain. The goal is to speed up reed pulp's utilization and further processing, the growth of harvesting entrepreneurship, and the construction of business models in the industry so that in the future reed can be used sustainably and on market terms. As Project Environmental Lead you are responsible for the project activities, management, and reporting for Arcada.
We are looking for a person who is passionate about improving the Baltic Sea environment and circular bioeconomy. You like to work on development projects with varying tasks. You are responsible for Arcada's working package and you might have experience organizing seminars/education or working in a laboratory.
As Project Environmental Lead:
- You are responsible for the University's part for the Baltic reed project and make sure that the project reaches its overall goals.
- you plan and produce education and seminars about harvesting reed
- you create and innovate novel bioeconomic pathways for reed together with project partners
- You support the project group on the reed harvesting
You have a master/bachelor/PhD degree in material- or bioscience, chemistry, environmental science, or other relevant education. It is an advantage if you have a research education (PhD), however it is not mandatory. You have prior experience of working with project management and/or coordination. You are fluent in English and have knowledge of Swedish or Finnish. As a person you are communicative, have good organizational skills and can work independently as well as with others in a group.
